Ella is a film director born and based in London.
Ella Jones began her career as a professional actress before moving through film and TV development into directing. Her short films have played at festivals including Phoenix, Triforce, LOCO, LA Comedy Fest, Portland, Cambridge and Encounters.
Her latest short ‘Sarah Chong is Going to Kill Herself’ was made through Creative England’s ‘Funny Girls’ scheme, in association with Big Talk and Baby Cow Productions, and has received numerous nominations including ‘Best Director’ at this year’s Portland Film Festival. During this process, she was mentored by writer-directors Paul King (Paddington, The Mighty Boosh) and Peter Straughan (Tinker, Tailor, Wolf Hall).
Ella’s first feature, a romantic comedy about polyamory, is in development with Film4. She recently shot her first TV project with Objective productions – a comedy series taster for Channel 4 written by Penelope Skinner and E.V. Crowe. Alongside her directing work,
She has recently been selected for Berlinale Talents 2018 edition.
Ella is also a freelance script editor, working with award-winning writers such as Gwyneth Hughes, Hossein Amini, Peter Harness and David Farr. She has recently finished script editing Peter Moffat’s 6 x 1 hour original series for BBC1 and his feature film with Smokehouse Pictures for George Clooney to direct. Ella has a double first in History from Cambridge University.
